Alter-G Antigravity Treadmill
Carter Rehabilitation is pleased to announce that it has brought to Flagstaff the latest in rehabilitation, sports training, and weight loss technology: the Alter-G anti-gravity treadmill. The Alter-G treadmill allows users to run or walk in a reduced gravity environment, and has been an effective tool in helping with patient rehabilitation. It has also been used to train athletes, including Olympians and professional sports teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers. Carter Rehabilitation is currently the only organization in Northern Arizona to offer an Alter-G treadmill for on-site public use.
Developed by NASA to train astronauts in a reduced gravity environment, the Alter-G anti-gravity treadmill has been adapted for use in medical rehabilitation, sports training, weight loss, and many other settings. With a basic design similar to a standard treadmill, the Alter-G allows the user to run or walk in a reduced gravity environment. The user's weight can effectively be reduced to just 20% of actual body weight in one percent increments. Many athletes enjoy training on the Alter-G treadmill, as the technology allows athletes to run faster and longer. In rehabilitation settings, the technology allows patients to build muscle tone earlier while taking weight off injured or recently repaired joints. Likewise, the Alter-G treadmill has also been useful in weight loss settings, allowing users to build muscle and burn fat while reducing stress on joints and feet.
At Carter Rehabilitation, the Alter-G treadmill will not only be used to benefit patients with orthopedic and neurological deficits, but also athletes, individuals seeking weight loss, and members of the public who would like to use the technology on a pay-as-you-go basis. As the only on-site Alter-G treadmill in Northern Arizona available to members of the general public outside of a medical or research setting, anyone can use the technology on a pay-as-you-go basis. The cost is $25 per half hour. Appointments can be made by calling Carter Rehabilitation at (928) 226-0792.
Joseph Carter, PT, DPT, Co-owner of Carter Rehabilitation, states, "The Alter-G treadmill is truly a universal piece of equipment that can benefit anyone-from the patient who had a stroke and is learning to walk again to the professional, endurance athlete looking to enhance their performance."
