Running Clinic

Our state-of-the-art running clinic includes:

Comprehensive Videotaped Running Gait Analysis

Running Gait Analysis You cannot properly treat or prevent running injuries without understanding why you are getting injured or what mechanics may lead to injury. Videotaped running gait analysis is the best way to learn about how you run and how you can improve your biomechanics to treat and/or prevent injury.

Video gait analysis involves taking and analyzing slow motion video of your full body running gait from different angles and assessing how each joint is moving, evaluating your limb alignment and stability, and examining how your body accommodates the stresses of running. We will compare your values to normative values found in the most recent research. We will provide suggestions on how to decrease stress to vulnerable joints and give you gait retraining strategies as well as a comprehensive program to address your weaknesses and reduce your risk of injury.

Running Toward Excellence Program (injury prevention program)

In our Running Toward Excellence program a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy will complete a(n):

  • Comprehensive videotaped running gait analysis (see previous page)
  • Full biomechanical evaluation including testing the length and strength of your running muscles, the proper movement of your joints, balance, and dynamic stability.
  • Assessment of your strengths, weaknesses, and risk for injury.
  • Comprehensive injury risk reduction program customized to your specific needs and will progress your program as you improve.

Alter-G Antigravity Treadmill

We are the only clinic in Northern Arizona with onsite access to the Alter-G treadmill. The Alter-G treadmill allows users to run/walk in a reduced gravity environment (down to 20% of your body weight), enabling you to run faster and longer with reduced stress to your body and joints. It is used by numerous sports teams and Olympians to enhance training and rehabilitation. more info

Running Rehabilitation Program

Many common treatments for runners deal with the symptoms of your injury and may not treat the underlying cause, resulting in reoccurring injury. Physical Therapists are specially trained in biomechanics and our therapists have advanced training in running gait analysis and in the rehabilitation of runners with a focus on the source of your injury. Our Physical Therapists will assess the underlying causes of your injury, walk you through strategies to decrease the inherent mechanical stresses of running, and build up your body's ability to better withstand those stresses to run pain free again.

In our Running Rehab program a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy will complete a(n):

  • Comprehensive videotaped running gait analysis
  • Full biomechanical evaluation including testing the length and strength of your running muscles, the proper movement of your joints, balance, and dynamic stability.
  • Assessment of the underlying causes to your running injury.
  • Comprehensive therapy program customized to your specific strengths and weaknesses to reduce your pain and return you to running. We will walk you through and progress your rehabilitation program as you improve.
  • Alter-G Antigravity Treadmill Training as necessary
